WORKSHOP DETAILS

Workshops are a three-day intensive and most marvelous journey into the essence of relationship, in particular, the relationship between husband and wife.

During the course of this workshop, divided into two and a half days, we will demonstrate the Imago Method, set forth by Dr. Harville Hendricks, with his wife Helen, but from the point of view of Torah values, which are at the root of this method. It is an intense, stimulating, and electrifying piece of partnered work, which allows couples to open up to each other in ways that they never have before, through safety and intimacy. The workshop is quiet and safe, as we create a holding and containing space for the group. All parts of the workshop are modeled and subsequently put into practice during the three days.

Although the work is a learning experience, the workshop is also experiential, where we construct a life experience, which builds intimacy. No one is required to do anything. Participants find the workshop exciting and intense, and usually wish to participate fully.

The first day is dedicated to the global structure of Imago work, which describes relationship, as it has evolved from the very beginning of time, and how it has developed until now.  We will explain and demonstrate the nature of romantic love, as well as its yearning for return to a whole and more perfect model of love.  We then describe the phases of power struggle and repair. We speak to the universalism of love relationships, and teach the “Art of Dialogue” as a form. All the parts of relationship will be related to from the viewpoint of Torah culture. As such, we will refer to Torah relational paradigms as our source for the “ideal” relationship. We will deal with the concepts of the “visit over the bridge” to another person, the art of listening and understanding, the space between two people, and the art of compassion, as an ideal to be cultivated. All participants will receive their own workbooks, in which to document aspects of their lives and their own experiences and to work on understanding their own journey in depth.

On day 2, we deal with our past lives, where we originate and how that plays a role in our present relationships. There are two main dialogues, which are demonstrated before the group, in which we facilitate and teach. After this, the members of the group perform the dialogue with their partners. If couples need help we are available to assist them. We also deal with the threefold journey: the Cosmological Journey, the Psychological Journey, and the Sociological Journey. Each partner gets to find his place in these areas and begins to understand what attracted him to his partner. Most importantly, we will answer the most asked question, “Why did I marry my partner” and "How did I get into this particular relationship?" Fun and movies are interspersed throughout the workshop.

On day 3, we talk about  techniques for enhancing a marriage, and the elements that weaken it.  We speak about subtle exits, and  ways of imploding our partners with goodness, appreciation, and care. We  discuss behavioral change and the differences between surrender and concession on one hand, and good will and compromise on the other. We then discuss the limitations of relationship and the major ways of enhancing it. Finally, we focus on the value of “intention” as a sine qua non of relationship.

Mimi and Moshe are both trained professionals. Mimi is a psychologist and a specialist in relationship, as well as trauma treatment. She has written and lectured  on topics of Judaism and Psychology and has a very active practice in Jerusalem. She gives workshops in Hebrew and English for couples, wishing to enhance their relational skills.

Moshe Dickman is a physician, who teaches Neurology at Hadassah Medical School in Jerusalem, and is boarded by the American Medical Board of Neurology and Psychiatry. Moshe, also a member of a Jerusalem Kollel, brings  his knowledge of psychiatry and Torah to the workshop, to create a dynamic and interesting experience.

The workshop is serious, but also loving and fun, with many surprises. It is for people at all levels of relationship and at any stage in their marriage. It is underwritten by Rabbi Dr. Abraham J. Twerski and by Rabbi Aharon Bina, Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshiva Netiv Aryeh, Jerusalem.
